Found Food

After a catch-up rest we ventured out about 1900 to see the Duna (Danube, we're learning Hungarian quickly and will no doubt be fluent by next week) Our hotel is on the South end of the central city so we wanted to find a restaurant nearby. We asked the front desk and carefully followed their directions to Zsindelyes Restaurant and Palinkafozde. The "carefully followed" refers to us walking about 2 miles to find the restaurant right behind the hotel. The place was certainly the most authentic and quaint Hungarian Restaurant and Palinkafoze we had ever been to...you should now be getting used to the style of my writing. It really was a great place, sitting outside, attentive staff that spoke some English, trolley cars rumbling past,. red and white checked tablecloths and musicians that broke into "Fly Me To The Moon" as soon as we sat down. The specials sounded great and we were very hungary. I had the duck with a cherry sauce and potato croquettes, see pic, Lisa had the "beef meat" stew, see pic, that was recommended by a Canadian at another table and served with one of Lisa's favorites, french fries. Both were delicious. We took the waiters suggestion and had a great Hungarian Rose, fruity but dry, not a typical rose. Dessert was an apple pancake, see pic. Dinner, wine and dessert with service was 13700 HUF, I think that's about $75.

The musicians were talented and fun, Attila was the leader, he played the violin, his two cousins played violin and bass violin. They sang, played and told us about their adventures on cruise ships. We bought their CD, "Faimos Hungarian Song's Csardas & Operett Musik."

Palinkafozde means Shot House, more Hungarian. We promised we would come back.

Today is Sunday...quiet here so far, some walkers along the Duna. We're heading out again and walking North toward the Old City.

More later.
