Exploring on a Cloudy Day

We walked North from the hotel along the Danube and wandered onto Vaci Utca, Utca or Ut is Hungarian for street or avenue. This is todays language lesson. Vaci Utca is a little touristy but friendly. We had baked cheese with a blueberry sauce and two nice soups, I had a creamy bean soup and Lisa had a creamy onion soup in a bread bowl, see pics. We then walked across the Liberty Bridge to Buda and looked around the Gellert Hotel, a hotel with thermal baths in the lobby, we didn't take the plunge but we are working up the nerve, may be to many Speedo's. We strolled along on the Buda side and found the Funicular, a quaint tram that takes you to the top of Castle Hill, see pics. We explored the South end of Castle Hill but this area will require more investigation, several museums, craft vendors and snack shacks. Great views of Pest. Back across the Chain Bridge, onto a tram and back toward the hotel. On the corner by the hotel we walked into a 0 to 24 market, sort of like a postage stamp 7-11. We have already seen at least a hundred of these tiny little markets, we bought a 1.5L bottle of "still" water and a bottle of Egri Voros wine, the wine was 1260 HUF, about $9. We paid 3300 HUF for the wine with dinner last night, HUF is the official abbreviation for forint. The current exchange rate is 182 HUF to $1.00 US. We are still getting our clock re-set.

We will look at apartments tomorrow and have dinner with Andrea Karpati our Hungarian host, colleague and friend.

I'm enjoying writing this, hope you are enjoying reading it.
