Festival season in Budapest

June 1st is the official start of festival season all over Hungary. The weather is nice, the evenings are long and the gardens are in so people are ready for festivaling. (I know)

This festival is a Calvinist celebration. On one end of the street is a Reformed Calvinist congregation and the other end of the street is a Neo-Calvinist. The festival is held at both churches the same weekend and it becomes quite an event. Groups from all over Hungary and Romania come for the weekend celebration. They seem to be getting along; John Calvin would be proud.

They were starting the set-up this afternoon as we walked by and we returned this evening for some music.

The groups all performed, some danced some sang.

At the end of the evening all the groups had gathered at one end, the brass band played and everyone sang and walked to the other end of the street, probably a half mile.

I made a short video but it was taking forever to download, I may try it from the University where there is a faster connection.

Other pics are just scenes around Budapest. Read the service station signs carefully, you can learn more Hungarian. The cherub is an example of the beautiful details all over the city. The food booth was preparing huge pans of vegetables.

We are excited because we have scheduled a trip to Transylvania on June 17th. Our friend Andrea and her daughter Eva will come along. Andrea was born in Oradea Romania and is very familiar with the small villages and castles we want to visit. It will be good to have a local as a guide because we all know how angry those villagers can become.

My pea rash is better, thanks for asking.
