At train station in Vienna

We found a WiFi hot spot here at the Wein-Meidling Train Station. There was a bit of irony when we asked directions from a Uban Info desk and I was told "to get to Prague you must first go to Philadelphia." Who wooda thunk there was a Philadelphia stop in Vienna. Anyway we found Philadelphia, found the train station and are waiting for our train scheduled for 9:33, track 5.

We had two fun days in Vienna. We spent a lot of Euros. The free public transit that was included with our train ticket was a nice feature and we used it extensively. Vienna is very expensive and I for one am glad to be headed to Prague where prices are cheaper by European standards.

We are scheduled to arrive in Prague at 2:19. It has been very warm in Vienna but is much cooler in Prague. High today is 28C, it was 37C in Vienna yesterday.

This connection is questionable at best so I will post a few pictures and hope we can get good internet in Prague. All quiet on the Eastern front.

Follow-up...just as I typed the word "questionable" the connection died, I should have said "what a great little connection we have here." We are in Prague, settled into the Ungelt Hotel/Apartments. Our apartment resembles one of the Hapsburg's summer residences, large living room with kitchenette, foyer, 2 large bedrooms, 1 1/2 baths, lots of big overstuffed furniture and great windows overlooking the street. We don't have any idea where we are in the city as were were completely lost from the time we left the train station. Our window looks onto Stupartska St. but you enter the hotel thru a courtyard on some other street with lots of consonants. We walked by numerous restaurants so dinner will not be a problem.

We are off to explore and get lost in the city.

Photo notes...

Our hotel in Vienna had a handy foot washer, it came in handy after a day of walking the cobblestones.
This is the train we took from Vienna to Prague.

Clayton and I found a nice couple to do a photo trade.
This is the Hapsburg's summer home...considered to be second only to Versailles in grandeur.

  1. Love that you are in the stomping grounds of my ancestors. My roots are in a small town that was once near Prague, but that was blown off the face of the earth in one of the many wars that affected that area. I think its name was Valsvice. Back then, when my grandmother was born there in 1893, the country was Bohemia, and it was part of Austria-Hungary. :^)
