4th of July Hungarian Style

Well the 4th of July has about come and gone here in Budapest and I have to say I was not impressed. I was out early checking out the festivities, looking for the street fairs, looking for the chili cookoffs. The streets were crowded; the people were out and ready to celebrate. I found evidence of the big 4th of July sales. The fruit and vegetable stands were well stocked and ready to supply back yard barbeques all over the city. The watermelon was cut into colorful wedges; the peaches were ready to be baked into peach pies. There was a disturbing absence of Firework Stands, no buy one get 13 free places, but living in Illinois for the past 22 years I was used to driving over state lines to find fireworks. I figured the firework stands were in Romania or Slovakia. We really didn’t need any bottle rockets. I had been listening to the radio closely for the past few days trying in vain to pick-up the times and locations of the parades and gala firework displays. I would just have to take my chances and be on the most likely streets at the most likely times.

Lisa says it’s time to come in for dinner.

Clayton comes in tomorrow; we are looking forward to re-discovering the city with him.
